Kitty’ka, you are such a loving person

December 18, 2009

Kitty at Spencer Road on her wedding day with her bridesmaid Mabel on her left and flowergirls (right to left) Sheila, Bharathi, Premela and Indra

Dear Kitty’ka,
You are such a loving person, helping everyone in all their needs, with your visits, encouragement nad prayers. Your visits during Mom’s old age (Ruby Yesudian) we cannot forget. Thank you Kitty’ka for that.

Your active life – writing letters-  sending cards and wishes to all, at least 2 weeks before the day, your invitations to the concerts , sales ahead of time – all this I remember and give praise to God for your love. Last but not least, being a flower girl at your wedding was and still is one of the highpoints of my life. One I recollect with pleasure.

We all wish you a happy 85th birthday and may god bless you and give you good health and strength.

Love
Premela

The first thing that came to my mind was your smiling face

Dear Kitty Pattimma,

Here”s wishing you a Very Very Happy Birthday and may God bless you with good health and loads of happiness in the years to come.

When Trixie Aunty asked us to write a few sentences about you, the first thing that came to my mind was your smiling face, you are always smiling no matter which part of the day I get to meet you.  When you were residing in Spencer Road and when we came to visit you on Sundays after church, you were so excited to see us visit you, you would bring out all the bottles of snacks and offer us different variety of juices.  Your hospitality, sweetness and kindheartedness will never be forgotten, and Priya and me have learnt so much from you. You  are so humble and down to earth.  Be it your children, grand-children or great-grand-children, God has blessed you to see four generations and God willing you will see many more!

I also remember that your Birthday cards would be the first to reach us, you were so organised and remembered all our birthdays and anniversaries.

Thank you for all that you have been to us, you are such a blessing to Priya, me and my kids.

Have a wonderful Birthday! God bless!!

Love,

Clement

I’ll always remember the hymn books that you would carry to cheer people up

December 15, 2009

Kitty Aunty,

We just want to thank the lord for your life and all that you have done in our lives.

I’ll always remember the hymn books that you would always carry with you in your bag, when you visited people, whether it was for a birthday, an anniversary, a christening, to cheer up someone after an illness or an accident, and especially when you visited families who lost their loved ones, and you came to cheer them up.

You would lead in worship, then give a short, appropriate message from the Bible, and then you would pray for everyone in the family, down to the youngest member.

Thank you aunty, and wish you a happy birthday.
With love, Tango, Nikhil and Rajmohan.

Your life has been such a blessing to me.  I remember how you would come every week to visit me at Bishop Cottons when I was in the hostel.  You would come with lots of food, give me updates on family and TV serials and always make my day.  Once in a month i would come to your home where you would have all my favorite meals prepared, you would take me to the library to borrow books and also to the video shop to borrow favorite videos.  I will never forget how you took care of me.  After that, we used to make greeting cards on your computer.  You are so smart, you picked up working on the computer and making cards on the computer.

My favorite times were when I would stay with you on Saturday night, we would have a yummy meal and play a good round of scabble after that and end the night with prayer.  You are a fantastic scrabble player!

You are my role model because you always had time for people.  Your house was an open house, we used to come and go anytime and were always taken care of.  You always visited people who were sick, bereaved, lonely, old etc.  You always answered your “Nudges from the Lord”.  You have helped so many people.  You are just amazing. You’re always so cheerful and full of life.  It was an inspiration to me to be like you.

Thank you for being the best grandmother anyone can wish for!  You are awesome!

Lots and lots of love,
Rachna

Thank you so much for all your love and affection

One of the reasons God smiles at me is because of Patima’s prayers

December 12, 2009

Chitra with brother Rohit and son Inba

Chitra and Sushil after Inba's christening in Bombay

These days when I sing songs to my son I can’t help but think of all the songs Patima taught me and Rohit. I sing him nursery rhymes and have to make up the lines I’ve forgotten and remember Patima singing them effortlessly.

My first children’s Bible sits on top of my drawer, solid, with brightly coloured pictures. I look at it and recall a picture of me and Rohit lying cozy in bed while Patima read to us from the same Bible.

When I look at my life I know that one of the reasons that God smiles at me is because of Patima’s prayers.

Patima, Thank you for all your love and care.
May God bless you and Keep you always.

Lots of love and kisses
Chitra

My dearest Aunty Kitty,

You filled my heart the day I was as born and you have continued to fill my heart each day.

I will cherish and carry the fondest memories of your nurturing of my life’s pathway and the role modelling that you gave me as a child, a teenager and an adult.   YOU were there and still are there for me continuously. I love you and I wish you the most Blessed and most joyful of Birthdays.. as WE ALL thank God for your life.

How can I ever retell the life you have ‘given’ me. It was not just Trixie, Jeyanthi and Pradeep… Your love encompassed so many… and us in particular.. .‘The Hensmans’.. We lived in each other’s homes, we sang week after week in the choir at St. John’s, we celebrated, laughed joked, teased, sang, at so many COUNTLESS occasions. We picnicked all the time, ate Thangamma’s special dosais and chutney, ate leechies and went to Dak Pathar or Robber’s cave at a drop of a hat, Bijapur Canal was in your backyard for us.. moonlight reflected picnics, guitars and just singing, from choruses to hymns..Your chuckle and laugh…I love you Aunty. Your love and
care, your patience and your ear. Dehra Dun was an ERA for us. I cannot write ALL my heartfelt, cherished memories. They are embedded in my soul.. the details, the sharing, the birthing, the creating, the nourishing… I have so much to thank you for but I thank GOD for you.

Thank you for memories, rich moments, treasured days and SO MUCH LOVE and UNDERSTANDING… even until my last visit to see you in 2007 from Canada. You are VERY SPECIAL.

I cannot forget the other life we were blessed to share together, in Bangalore… My scooter trips and sleepovers continued. You listened and you advised. I’d come and still would sit between you and Uncle John at church… especially on my visits from Canada. Going to church with you is always special. Watching you, even at this age, being involved with the Women’s Fellowship is energy to learn from.

Aunty, you always had time for everyone. Our special moments, praying and singing with Aunty Ranee at Lewis Road were blessed. You are a mother to me. I admire you for getting up at 5 am and writing birthday cards, even as a fully fledged doctor and mother. Your card was always my first card no matter where in the world I was. Your singing by bedsides, praying, doing so many doctor’s visits.. did not just nourish your soul but of those around you.

I wish you Aunty.. God’s blessings in abundance of faith, health, peace and joy… FEEL the LOVE from MILLIONS around the world…I am just ONE of those millions saying… I LOVE YOU for who you are and what you have made me become. I MISS YOU and send you my hugs, prayers and lots and lots of love, YOU make my life feel a cherished love like no one can offer since I was born… GOD KEEP you SAFE.

Love you, Aunty Kitty.

Kitty Periama, on your special day, I want to say a big “Thank you’ and “God Bless”

December 8, 2009

From Roshini Arthur

My memories of you, Kitty Periama, begin from way back in my childhood, when the four of us – Mal, Suresh, Kam and I spent so many wonderful holidays with you at Dehradun. The seven of us children must have been a real handful to look after, but you made every second of our stay really exciting.

I remember the way you trained us to say our prayers, read the Bible and do a good deed every day with the star system. You gave us sumptuous food , and with Ebbie Uncle took us for picnics to Dak Bungalow, trekking in the hills and to Mussoorie amongst other places.

I remember the lovely house on the hill with its cobblestone area in front, the lychee tree at the back and the fireside where we just missed seeing Santa’s backside every X’mas we were there. He always left us a lot of presents though!

I remember the rounders and songs you led us through whenever we went on long car journeys, including “There’s a hole in your bucket” and “In a wood there was a tree” and “The woman who swallowed a fly”.

Seeing you with your patients in the hospital gave me encouragement to become a doctor. Your very genuine concern for all who came to you for help, is an inspiration to me.

The family togetherness you brought about has been instrumental in keeping the David family so close after so many years. The affection and closeness shared by you sibs is a great example to me of how a family supports each other in good times and bad.

Kitty Periama, on your special day, I want to say a big “Thank you’ and “God Bless”. You have always been an inspiration to me. Happy Birthday Periama. May God give you good health and happiness in the days to come. Love Roshini.

Your prayers for me have protected me and guided me in my life’s journey

From Priya Williams Mon, Dec 7, 2009

Dearest Kitty Pattiamma!

I thank God for giving me a God-fearing grandmother like you.

I know your prayers for me throughout the years have protected me and guided me in my life’s journey.

I remember spending Christmas with you and Thatha in my childhood.

I remember the songs you taught me, especially:
“Without Him I can do nothing,
 Without Him I’ll always fail,
Without Him I will be drifting
Like a ship without a sail.
But with Him I can do all things
And with Him I cannot fail
And over the stormiest ocean
In perfect peace I’ll sail..

And of course your famous  “She sailed away…”

Thank you for your life of faith…of courage…of blessing to so many…of prayer and miracles…a woman driver…a doctor…you are an inspiraton…a role model… You are such a blessing to me… I love you Pattiamma!

Love and kisses and hugs Priya

Your home in Dehradun was a second home to us

Dearest Kitty Periamma,

I remember how:

Your home in Dehradun was a second home to us.

The wonderful times we spent on vacation in your home in Dehradun.

The STAR system you set up to make sure we all said our prayers, did     our  chores, homework, played the piano etc.

You took care of me when I was car-sick on our many drives to Mussorie.

You didn’t bat an eye but let the physician in you calmly take over when Malathi pushed a fist into Victor Periappa’s glass window, Suresh swallowed some marbles blowing through a Hoola hoop, and I got bitten by a spider and you cut the poison out.

Your wonderful and infectious laughter.

You calling me Kum Ji Kum.

The wonderful stories and songs you taught us.

How Santa always visited us when we were singing carols and we would       run around the house, only to hear you tell us that we missed Santa’s backside go up the chimney!!

The wonderful Christmas plays and Christmas carols we learnt from you       and sang in your home.

The wonderful 5th birthday party you organized for me in Dehradun, when   mum sewed my silk dress and sent it by parcel from Delhi!

That you never ever forgot my birthday and I would always get a card    before my birthday, sometimes 2 cards!

Kitty Periamma, I have so many loving memories of you and Binkle.
You are such a loving, God-fearing, caring, aunt.
You have touched the lives of so many people through your loving ministry.
I am truly blessed to have a wonderful aunt like you.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Have a wonderful 85th birthday with your loving family.

I can picture you holding me as a baby

December 5, 2009

Close friends at Noel's 8h birthday - the Davids, Henasmans, Guhas, Monys and Manis

“It’s a Boy!!” – though I was only a few seconds in this world when you shouted with joy announcing my arrival – I can actually picture you holding me and screaming out, while dad sat in the verandah,  smoking and reading the paper!!

It’s almost 46 years since that day (will be in 3 days time!!).

How can I forget –

– the yellow Ambassador car coming on Sunday mornings to pick us up or drop us back after church with either Uncle or you driving us. It was quite often you all would land up and have breakfast at our place after church – how we looked forward to those few hours together.

-Our picnics to Bijapur canal with the Monys.

– The choir practices and the various choirs we all sang in together.

– Your commitment to your work at the hospital.

– Our ability to call on you at anytime of the day for help medical or otherwise – you were after all our family doctor.

Aunty – I could go on and on – almost every memory I have of church and our good times in Dehra Dun is linked back to you.  THANK YOU for being there and giving us such a loving and great time together as kids.

One of your biggest assets was your ability to keep in touch, write letters with all your dear friends and most of all never forgetting anyone’s birthdays or anniversaries.

May God Bless you and may you have a lovely time with the family and friends around you – while we will not be there in person we will be with you in spirit.

We love you very much and miss you.

Take care.
